This music was composed for Caroline Geiser’s theatre play Over Tennis, based on masculinity and friendship with text by Jonas van Dalen. The play was originally staged on the 21st and 22nd of December 2023 at Theater De Sloot in Amsterdam, NL.

Two men sit next to each other in the stands of a tennis stadium. Their friendship, which spans 50 years, goes through a tumultuous journey of familiarity, as they struggle to be vulnerable with each other. Will they grow separately or together? Will they be able to drop their walls and connect?

So much of what is perceived as masculinity can distract us from true connection. The qualities that pass for strength can lead us to loneliness.

For this music I recorded my own samples of tennis balls and ping pong balls combined with different percussion instruments. I created a sample pack that’s released as a separate album: lukaschuurman.bandcamp.com/album/samplepack-tennis-ball-ping-pong-ball. It's free for you to download and use in your own work.
